Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily B member 8 (OR8B8) is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that mediates the recognition and transduction of odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium, initiating neuronal responses responsible for the perception of smell[1][2][4][5]. OR8B8 belongs to a large family of single exon, Class A (Rhodopsin-like) GPCRs that share a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure with other neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[1][2][3][5]. The gene is part of the largest gene family in the human genome. While olfactory receptors are primarily expressed in the olfactory epithelium, some have been identified in other tissues, but there is no evidence that OR8B8 plays a significant role outside of olfaction or serves as a disease-related or therapeutic target[3][6]. There are no drugs or clinical biomarkers associated with OR8B8, and it is not considered a target in pharmacology or disease[1][3].
