Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily D member 1 (OR8D1)

Target
OR8D1
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), 7-transmembrane receptor, Receptor, Olfactory receptor (subfamily)
01

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily D member 1 (OR8D1) encodes a seven-transmembrane domain G protein-coupled receptor expressed in the olfactory epithelium, where it binds small odorant molecules in the nasal cavity to initiate neuronal signaling leading to the perception of smells. Like other olfactory receptors, it forms part of the largest gene family in the human genome and is structurally and functionally related to other neurotransmitter and hormone GPCRs. Its main role is detection and transduction of odorant chemicals, contributing to the sense of smell, and is not believed to have a direct role in major human diseases or drug therapy
