Overview

Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily H member 3 (OR8H3) is a human protein-coding gene that encodes an olfactory receptor involved in the sense of smell[1][5][3]. OR8H3 interacts with odorant molecules in the nose, initiating neuronal signals that are interpreted as smell. Like other olfactory receptors, it is a member of the large G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family and possesses the canonical seven-transmembrane domain structure shared by many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[1][3][5]. OR8H3, together with other olfactory receptors, forms the largest gene family in the human genome. Its primary established function is olfactory signal transduction; it is not a well-studied therapeutic target outside of basic olfactory biology[1][3][5]. There are no known drugs, biomarkers, or therapeutic applications specifically targeting OR8H3. The receptor is primarily associated with normal sensory function and, to a limited extent, some upper airway inflammatory conditions[5].
