Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily I member 2 (OR8I2) is a protein encoded by the OR8I2 gene in humans and serves as an odorant receptor within the olfactory system. It is classified as a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) and has a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure common to neurotransmitter and hormone receptors[2][3][4][6][8]. OR8I2 detects specific odorant molecules in the nasal cavity, initiating a neuronal response that triggers the perception of smell. The olfactory receptor proteins represent the largest receptor family in the human genome and function by activating G protein signaling pathways resulting in cAMP production, mediating the signal transduction for odor detection[3][7][8].
