Overview

Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily J member 1 (OR8J1) is a human G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that functions in the detection of odor molecules, thus initiating the neuronal response that underlies the sense of smell[3][2][4][5]. Like other olfactory receptors, it exhibits the classic seven-transmembrane domain architecture characteristic of GPCRs and is translated from a single coding exon gene[3][2][5]. OR8J1 is primarily expressed in olfactory sensory neurons but, as for some olfactory receptors, may have additional expression or functional roles in non-chemosensory tissues, although for OR8J1, this is not well documented[7]. No physiological ligands have been confidently described for OR8J1, and its structure has not been experimentally determined. There is currently no evidence for interaction with drugs or direct involvement in clinical biomarker strategies or drug safety concerns.
