Overview

Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily J member 3 (OR8J3) is a G protein-coupled receptor located in the olfactory epithelium, where it enables detection of specific odorant molecules. Upon odorant binding, OR8J3 activates intracellular G protein signaling, leading to neuronal depolarization and signal transmission to the brain for odor perception. Like other olfactory receptors, OR8J3 has seven transmembrane domains and belongs to the largest gene family in the human genome. Its primary function is physiological—mediating the sense of smell—rather than serving as a therapeutic drug target. Disease associations, if any, are limited and mainly linked to broader genomic disruptions rather than to receptor-specific dysfunction[1][4][5].
