Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily T member 1 pseudogene (OR8T1P) is a non-protein-coding gene that is part of the olfactory receptor gene family. While functional olfactory receptor genes are responsible for detection of odorants through G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) mechanisms, pseudogenes like OR8T1P result from mutations (such as nonsense or frameshift) that prevent the formation of a functional receptor protein[2][3][4]. In humans, a substantial portion of olfactory receptor genes are pseudogenes and do not produce functional proteins.
