Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily T member 1 pseudogene (OR8T1P)

Target
OR8T1P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Olfactory receptor (gene family context, but non-functional member), G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily (gene context only; no functional protein product)

Overview

Olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily T member 1 pseudogene (OR8T1P) is a non-protein-coding gene that is part of the olfactory receptor gene family. While functional olfactory receptor genes are responsible for detection of odorants through G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) mechanisms, pseudogenes like OR8T1P result from mutations (such as nonsense or frameshift) that prevent the formation of a functional receptor protein[2][3][4]. In humans, a substantial portion of olfactory receptor genes are pseudogenes and do not produce functional proteins. Although rare cases have been reported where certain receptor pseudogenes (in other species) may be “read through” and generate protein products in specific contexts[3], no evidence currently exists for OR8T1P in humans. Therefore, it should not be considered a therapeutic or druggable target. If you intend to catalog therapeutic targets, OR8T1P should be excluded, as it does not encode a functional protein and is not a validated drug target[2][3][4].

Mechanism of action

None (not a functional protein, so not pharmacologically relevant)

03

Biological functions

None (as a pseudogene, it does not participate in known biological functions. Some olfactory receptor pseudogenes can have regulatory RNA roles, but no such function is documented for OR8T1P)
04

Disease associations

None established (OR8T1P does not appear to have a role in disease. Some pseudogenes may influence regulation or appear in gene expression studies, but no disease association is documented for this gene)
05

Safety considerations

None (no data on therapeutic challenge or safety concern for this pseudogene, as it is not therapeutically targeted)
06

Interacting drugs

None (no drugs are known to interact with this non-functional pseudogene)
07

Biomarkers

None (not used as a biomarker as per current evidence)
