Olfactory receptor family 9 subfamily G member 3 pseudogene (OR9G3P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene belonging to the large olfactory receptor (OR) gene family, specifically family 9, subfamily G, member 3[1][2]. While olfactory receptors as a class are seven-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that mediate the detection of odorant molecules in the nose, providing the molecular basis for the sense of smell[5][6], OR9G3P itself contains mutations or disruptions that prevent it from encoding a functional receptor protein, and thus it does not contribute to olfactory signaling[1][2]. In the human genome, a substantial fraction of olfactory receptor gene family members are pseudogenes, reflecting evolutionary processes that have reduced the repertoire of functional olfactory receptors in primates[5]. There is no evidence for OR9G3P functioning as a conventional receptor, nor is there data linking it to drug interactions, disease, safety concerns, or biomarker utility. Its classification as a pseudogene means it is not considered a therapeutic or functional molecular target.
