Olfactory receptor family 9 subfamily G member 4 (OR9G4) is a member of the olfactory receptor family, a large group of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for detecting odorant molecules in the nasal epithelium and initiating neuronal signaling that mediates the sense of smell[1][3][5]. OR9G4 shares a characteristic seven transmembrane domain architecture with other GPCRs. While the primary function is sensory perception of odorants, olfactory receptors, including OR9G4, may also play roles in nonolfactory tissues. OR9G4’s dysfunction or aberrant expression is associated with several disease phenotypes, though its direct role in these conditions is not fully elucidated[1][5]. No approved drugs are currently known to target OR9G4 directly, but olfactory GPCRs constitute a large, structurally diverse family of receptors involved in small molecule recognition and signal transduction[3][5].
