Overview

Olfactory receptor family 9 subfamily I member 1 (OR9I1) is a seven-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor expressed in human nasal epithelium. OR9I1 is responsible for the recognition of odorant molecules, initiating the neuronal response and perception of smell through activation of downstream signaling pathways. These receptors constitute the largest gene family in the human genome and share the canonical GPCR structure. OR9I1 operates via single coding-exon genes and participates in the olfactory signaling pathway. Pathway enrichment and gene ontology annotations for OR9I1 highlight G protein-coupled receptor activity and specific odorant binding[3][4]. OR9I1 is mapped in genome databases with evidence for protein expression and genetic variation, but there is no established therapeutic targeting or clinical biomarker utility. Diseases loosely associated with OR9I1 include colon mucinous adenocarcinoma and photoparoxysmal response 1; however, these links require further validation[3].
