Olfactory receptor family 9 subfamily I member 3 pseudogene (OR9I3P) is classified as a human pseudogene belonging to the olfactory receptor (OR) gene family, which is the largest gene family in the human genome[3][5]. While most functional ORs are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) responsible for detecting odorants and initiating neuronal signals for smell perception, OR9I3P has been annotated as a **pseudogene**, meaning it contains genetic alterations (such as nonsense or frameshift mutations) that likely prevent it from encoding a functional olfactory receptor protein[3][1]. Unlike its functional counterparts, there is no evidence that OR9I3P produces an active protein or serves as a therapeutic target. There is also no literature describing drugs, clinical biomarkers, or safety issues specific to this pseudogene. Although some research highlights the possibility that certain olfactory receptor "pseudo-pseudogenes" in other species can regain function (for example, via translational read-through of stop codons)[2][4], and some olfactory pseudogenes may have regulatory RNA roles affecting disease processes, this is not documented for OR9I3P in humans[3]. Therefore, OR9I3P is not considered a functional molecular target or therapeutic receptor.
