Olfactory receptor family 9 subfamily K member 2 (OR9K2) is a member of the largest gene family in the human genome, encoding a receptor expressed on the membranes of olfactory sensory neurons in the nasal epithelium[4][3]. OR9K2 interacts with odorant molecules, triggering a conformational change that activates an olfactory-type G protein (G_olf_), which in turn stimulates adenylate cyclase, elevates cAMP, and initiates a neuronal response that carries odor signals to the brain, leading to the perception of smell[3][4][5][8]. Like all olfactory receptors, OR9K2 exhibits a seven-transmembrane domain structure typical of GPCRs and mediates the detection and transduction of volatile chemicals[3][4]. The specific array of odorants to which OR9K2 responds is not well defined due to the complexity and redundancy of olfactory receptor repertoires[3][4][5]. There is limited evidence for disease associations, and there are currently no approved drugs that selectively interact with OR9K2 in humans[3][4][5].
