Olfactory receptor family 9 subfamily Q member 1 (OR9Q1) is a member of the large olfactory receptor family within the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. These proteins feature seven transmembrane domains and are expressed mainly in the olfactory epithelium, where they bind and recognize volatile odorant molecules, initiating a neuronal signaling cascade that culminates in the perception of smell. OR genes, including OR9Q1, are typically single exon genes with tissue-restricted expression. The OR9Q1 protein acts primarily in sensory signaling and is not currently considered a therapeutic drug target[1][4][5]. The olfactory receptor repertoire is the largest gene family in the human genome. Although some ORs have emerging roles in non-olfactory tissues, no specific biomarker or therapeutic relevance is described for OR9Q1. Key literature and database sources confirm that OR9Q1 is not currently linked to a specific therapeutic mechanism or interacting drugs, and its main function remains limited to olfactory transduction[1][3][4][5].
