Oncogenic long non-coding RNA on chromosome 8 (OLC8, also known as VPS13B divergent transcript) is a cytoplasmic lncRNA identified on chromosome 8q22 that is significantly upregulated in gastric cancer tissues and cell lines compared to normal tissues. Functional studies show that OLC8 increases cell proliferation and migration, both in vitro and in xenograft models, demonstrating its oncogenic role. Mechanistically, OLC8 binds and stabilizes IL-11 mRNA transcripts, enhancing IL-11 expression and downstream activation of the STAT3 signaling pathway, which in turn promotes gastric cancer progression. Its expression correlates with more advanced tumor stage and metastasis, and the lncRNA is considered a candidate biomarker and potential therapeutic target for gastric cancer.
Modulation of gene expression through RNA stabilization. Promotes IL-11 mRNA stability, leading to STAT3 pathway activation, which drives cancer cell growth.
