Vaccinia Virus (Oncolytic) (OVV)

Target
OVV
Molecular classification
Virus, Oncolytic Virus
01

Overview

Oncolytic vaccinia viruses (OVVs) are genetically engineered viruses designed to selectively infect, replicate within, and destroy tumor cells. OVVs induce oncolysis through multiple mechanisms, including direct cell lysis, disruption of tumor vasculature, and the activation of anti-tumor immune responses. Genetic modifications enhance safety and efficacy by restricting replication to tumor cells and expressing immunostimulatory transgenes. OVVs are being investigated in clinical trials as monotherapies and in combination with other cancer treatments.
