Overview

Oncolytic virus-mediated lysis refers to the process by which oncolytic viruses infect, replicate within, and ultimately destroy cancer cells, either through direct cell lysis (rupture) or by provoking anti-tumor immune responses via the release of tumor antigens and pro-inflammatory signals. Genetically engineered or naturally occurring viruses can be selected for the ability to preferentially replicate in tumor cells, often exploiting defects in antiviral pathways common in cancers, such as impaired interferon signaling. This process not only kills infected tumor cells but can also stimulate the immune system to recognize and attack remaining malignant tissue[1][2][3][5].
