Overview

Oocyte-secreted protein 2 (OOSP2) is a secreted protein highly translated in human oocytes, functioning as an autocrine factor to promote oocyte maturation[1][3][4][7]. Its expression is driven by regulatory motifs in its 3′-UTR and translational activation via polyadenylation and cytoplasmic polyadenylation elements, primarily CPEB4[1]. OOSP2 is co-expressed with key maturation regulators like BMP15[1]. Experimentally, recombinant OOSP2 accelerates oocyte maturation and blockade by antibodies or knockdown inhibits this process[1]. It upregulates translation of mRNAs involved in small GTPase signaling, organelle localization, and cellular events critical for oocyte development[1]. There is no evidence of therapeutic targeting or clear disease association for OOSP2 at this time; research primarily focuses on its role in reproductive biology and embryo development[1][3][4][7].
