Oocyte-secreted protein family member 4B (OOSP4B) is a protein encoded by the OOSP4B gene, noted in gene annotation databases for certain mammals such as Sumatran orangutan and listed as a protein-coding gene in general sequence records[2][5][3]. Its function is poorly characterized in the literature, and there are currently no curated reports linking OOSP4B to specific molecular activities, human disease, or drug interactions[2][5][3]. It is considered part of a family of oocyte-secreted factors, some members of which are implicated in oocyte maturation and embryonic development in model organisms (such as the related SURF4), but there is no evidence that OOSP4B itself is a therapeutic target or has established biological or clinical significance beyond basic annotation. No drugs, clinical biomarkers, or mechanisms of action are described for OOSP4B in public scientific sources, and it does not appear in major therapeutic or disease pathway reviews. Given the lack of functional data and the possibility of confusion with similar-sounding but functionally distinct proteins (e.g., SURF4, which does have a defined role in oocyte quality and endoplasmic reticulum trafficking in mice[1]), OOSP4B should not be regarded as a validated or practical therapeutic target at this time. Note: There may be confusion between OOSP4B and other oocyte-secreted proteins with experimentally demonstrated function (such as SURF4, described as an ER cargo receptor and maternal effect gene in oocyte quality determination in mice[1]).
