Overview

OOEP pseudogene 1 (OOEPP1) is classified as a pseudogene corresponding to the oocyte expressed protein (OOEP) gene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional due to mutations or lack of regulatory elements. Most pseudogenes, including OOEPP1, do not code for functional proteins, although some can be transcribed into RNA with potential regulatory effects such as modulation of microRNA activity or expression of neighboring genes. OOEPP1 is not considered a direct therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transcription factor, but pseudogenes in general may influence disease states through indirect gene regulatory mechanisms[2][5][3]. No known drug interactions, disease biomarker uses, or safety issues are reported for OOEPP1.

Biological functions

Other (pseudogenes generally do not encode functional proteins, but some transcripts may have regulatory RNA roles such as acting as miRNA decoys or antisense RNAs)
03

Disease associations

Other (pseudogenes in general can be expressed in a tissue- and disease-specific manner, sometimes associated with cancer or other disease states, but there are no specific disease associations reported for OOEPP1)
