Overview

OR2W1 antisense RNA 1 (OR2W1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the OR2W1 gene, located on human chromosome 6 (chr6:29035991-29090485, hg38). OR2W1-AS1 does not code for a protein. As an antisense lncRNA, it is hypothesized to play a role in regulating the expression of its sense gene, OR2W1, which encodes an olfactory G protein-coupled receptor, or potentially other neighboring genes. Antisense lncRNAs can regulate gene expression via multiple mechanisms, including recruitment of chromatin modifiers, modulation of mRNA stability, or direct RNA-RNA interactions, but the specific biological function of OR2W1-AS1 remains uncharacterized in the literature. Currently, there is no evidence that OR2W1-AS1 is a therapeutic target, nor any established role in disease or as a biomarker. No drugs are known to directly interact with this molecule.
