Oral Langerhans Cell (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Antigen-presenting cell, Dendritic cell
01

Overview

Oral Langerhans cells are specialized immune cells found within the stratified squamous epithelium of the oral mucosa. They act as key antigen-presenting cells (APCs) in the oral cavity. Their primary function is to detect antigens, process them, and present them to T-cells to initiate adaptive immune responses. They play a pivotal role in maintaining immune homeostasis at mucosal surfaces and providing early defense against infections or neoplastic transformation.
