Ornithine decarboxylase 1 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA
01

Overview

Ornithine decarboxylase 1 pseudogene (ENSG00000275733) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence resembling the protein-coding gene ornithine decarboxylase 1. Like other pseudogenes, it originated from duplication or retrotranscription of its parental gene and accumulated mutations that prevent it from functioning as a protein-coding gene. Most pseudogenes, including this one, do not have established biological functions, are not used as drug targets, and are not known to interact with pharmacological agents. While some pseudogenes can influence their parent gene's regulation through RNA-mediated effects or regional chromatin modification, such functions are rare and context-dependent; there is currently no evidence for canonical function, disease involvement, or clinical application for this specific pseudogene[1][2][4][5].
