The ornithine decarboxylase pseudogene is a non-coding DNA sequence homologous to the functional ODC1 gene. It does not encode a protein or act as a therapeutic target. In contrast, the ODC1 gene encodes the enzyme ornithine decarboxylase, which catalyzes the rate-limiting step in polyamine biosynthesis, is essential for cell growth and proliferation, and is implicated in cancer and other diseases. The pseudogene is located on chromosome 7q31-qter, whereas ODC1 is on chromosome 2p25[5].
