Target intelligence / Profile preview
Ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) stimulants are compounds or agents that enhance the activity of the enzyme ornithine decarboxylase. ODC catalyzes the decarboxylation of ornithine to produce putrescine, which is a critical step in polyamine biosynthesis. Polyamines such as putrescine, spermidine, and spermine are essential for cell proliferation, differentiation, and growth. Stimulation occurs at the transcriptional level, where agents increase mRNA expression for ODC, resulting in higher enzyme levels. Elevated ODC activity has been linked to cancer development.
Induces transcription/translation of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), increasing its enzymatic activity and subsequent polyamine synthesis.
