Oropharyngeal bacterial pathogens comprise a diverse group of microorganisms that inhabit the human pharynx and are capable of causing significant respiratory and systemic diseases. Common members include Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A Streptococcus), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis [StatPearls: Pharyngitis, 2023]. However, the increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance among these pathogens represents a major therapeutic challenge, necessitating careful diagnostic stewardship and the development of alternative treatments like vaccines or narrow-spectrum antimicrobials.
