Pseudogenes like OSTF1P1 arise through duplication or retrotransposition events and typically contain disabling mutations (such as frame shifts or premature stop codons) preventing them from being translated into functional proteins[1][2]. Some pseudogenes are transcribed at low levels, but most have no functional biological activity[2]. At present, there is no evidence that OSTF1P1 has a regulatory role or is involved in disease, nor is it considered a therapeutic target[1][2].
