Outer dynein arm-docking complex subunit 3 (ODAD3; also known as CCDC151) is a structural protein that forms part of the heterotrimeric outer dynein arm-docking complex (ODA-DC), which is essential for the attachment and correct placement of the outer dynein arms on the axonemal doublet microtubules of motile cilia and flagella[1][2][3]. This complex, composed of three core subunits, including DC3 (ODAD3/CCDC151), establishes the periodic binding sites required for efficient ciliary and flagellar movement by ensuring cooperative and regular assembly of the dynein arms every 24 nm along the axoneme[1][2]. The function of ODAD3 is critical for cilia motility, and loss-of-function mutations in the CCDC151 gene result in impaired ciliary motion, causing disorders such as primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD)[1]. ODAD3 is not a therapeutic target per se but is studied in the context of genetic diseases involving cilia dysfunction.
