Overview

Ovarian adenocarcinoma amplified long non-coding RNA (OVAAL) is a long non-coding RNA gene (also referenced as LINC01131, OVAL, RMEL2) located on chromosome 1. It is classified as a lncRNA, with expression amplified in ovarian adenocarcinoma and restricted expression in melanoma. OVAAL participates in regulating gene expression, possibly through chromatin modification or RNA-mediated mechanisms, and is implicated in cancer cell proliferation and tumorigenesis in ovarian cancer and potentially melanoma. While OVAAL is a candidate cancer biomarker, and may provide a new avenue for diagnostic or therapeutic development, no drugs are currently known to directly target OVAAL, and its mechanism in disease is an active area of research.

Mechanism of action

Not specifically targeted by any drug; potential mechanisms would involve gene expression regulation at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level. LncRNAs like OVAAL may act by modulating chromatin structure, mRNA stability, or protein interactions, but direct mechanisms remain to be characterized.
