Ovarian adenocarcinoma amplified long non-coding RNA (OVAAL) is a long non-coding RNA gene (also referenced as LINC01131, OVAL, RMEL2) located on chromosome 1. It is classified as a lncRNA, with expression amplified in ovarian adenocarcinoma and restricted expression in melanoma. OVAAL participates in regulating gene expression, possibly through chromatin modification or RNA-mediated mechanisms, and is implicated in cancer cell proliferation and tumorigenesis in ovarian cancer and potentially melanoma. While OVAAL is a candidate cancer biomarker, and may provide a new avenue for diagnostic or therapeutic development, no drugs are currently known to directly target OVAAL, and its mechanism in disease is an active area of research.
