Overview

OVCH1 antisense RNA 1 (OVCH1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the OVCH1 locus on human chromosome 12[1][3][4][6][8]. It belongs to the class of antisense lncRNAs, which are known to modulate gene expression via epigenetic and transcriptomic mechanisms, such as chromatin remodeling, transcriptional interference, or modulation of alternative splicing[2]. OVCH1-AS1 has been found to be differentially expressed in relation to frailty in elderly individuals, suggesting a possible regulatory or biomarker role in age-associated physiological decline[5]. There are currently no described direct small molecule or therapeutic interventions targeting OVCH1-AS1, and no evidence suggesting it functions as a conventional therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter). Associations with diseases like hepatocellular carcinoma or glioma in gene databases are not yet functionally substantiated and may reflect its general involvement in cellular regulatory networks as an lncRNA[8].
