OVOL1 antisense RNA 1 (OVOL1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the opposite DNA strand of the OVOL1 gene. As an antisense RNA, it is presumed to regulate the expression of the neighboring OVOL1 gene through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, alteration of chromatin state, or interaction with regulatory DNA elements. Antisense RNAs like OVOL1-AS1 typically function by binding to or modulating the activity of the sense (protein-coding) transcript, affecting gene expression post-transcriptionally or by influencing chromatin structure. Specific regulatory roles or disease associations for OVOL1-AS1 have not been characterized in the cited literature, but antisense RNAs in general are important modulators of gene expression, imprinting, and epigenetic processes.
