Oxalate decarboxylase (OxDC)

Target
OxDC
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Lyase, Bicupin superfamily
01

Overview

Oxalate decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.2) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of oxalate into formate and carbon dioxide. It is a homohexameric enzyme belonging to the bicupin superfamily and requires manganese ions and dioxygen for its activity. It plays a role in glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism and is involved in the response to acid pH stress in some bacteria. Engineered forms are being explored for hyperoxaluria treatment.
