Oxidative stress in skin cells refers to the condition where the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) from sources such as mitochondrial respiration, NADPH oxidase activity, and external stimuli (UV radiation, pollutants) exceeds the skin's antioxidant defenses. This leads to molecular damage, dysregulation of signaling pathways (including MAPK, NF-κB, PI3K/AKT, JAK/STAT, and others), cellular senescence, impaired extracellular matrix synthesis, inflammation, and progression of skin aging and diseases such as dermatitis, psoriasis, and cancers. While pharmacological and cosmetic approaches often target this process using antioxidants or pathway modulators, "oxidative stress in skin cells" is not a single molecular entity and is thus not classified as a canonical therapeutic target molecule or receptor.
