Oxidative Stress Pathway Modulation

Molecular classification
Pathway
01

Overview

Oxidative stress pathway modulation refers to the regulation of cellular processes that control the balance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidant defenses. Oxidative stress occurs when this balance is disrupted, leading to excessive ROS that can damage proteins, lipids, and DNA. This imbalance is implicated in a wide range of pathological conditions including inflammation, apoptosis (programmed cell death), cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, immune dysfunctions, and aging. Key components include ROS, antioxidant enzymes (SOD, GPX, CAT), non-enzymatic antioxidants (glutathione, vitamins), the NRF2-KEAP1 pathway, and the NF-κB pathway.
