Oxidized macrophage migration inhibitory factor (oxMIF) is a disease-related, immunologically distinct structural isoform of the cytokine macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF). While MIF is constitutively present in healthy tissues and circulation, oxMIF arises under pathological conditions characterized by oxidative stress and inflammation. oxMIF acts as a pro-tumorigenic and pro-inflammatory factor, promoting cancer cell survival/invasion, angiogenesis, immune evasion, and tissue damage in autoimmune diseases. It is a therapeutic target for novel treatments against cancers or chronic inflammatory/autoimmune disorders.
Anti-oxMIF monoclonal antibodies: Reduce cancer cell invasion/migration; inhibit angiogenesis; decrease production of proinflammatory cytokines; suppress ERK/AKT signaling pathways; induce apoptosis; alter immune cell function/migration.
