Overview

Oxidored-nitro domain-containing protein 1 (NOR1), also known as OSCP1, is a protein that acts as a tumor suppressor. It is involved in various cellular processes, including cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, and metabolic reprogramming. NOR1 is downregulated in several types of cancer, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma and leukemia, often due to promoter hypermethylation. Its re-expression can inhibit cancer cell growth by disturbing energy metabolism and promoting apoptosis. NOR1 also suppresses the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process, which is crucial for cancer cell invasion and metastasis. This molecule does not fit into traditional categories like receptors or ion channels, but it plays a significant role in cancer biology, making it a potential therapeutic target.
