Oxysterol-binding protein-related protein 5 (OSBPL5)

Target
OSBPL5
Molecular classification
Intracellular lipid receptor, Lipid transporter, Oxysterol-binding protein family, Pleckstrin homology domain-containing protein
01

Overview

Oxysterol-binding protein-related protein 5 (OSBPL5) is a member of the oxysterol-binding protein family, functioning primarily as a lipid transporter at membrane contact sites. It mediates counterexchange of phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate and phosphatidylserine between the endoplasmic reticulum and the plasma membrane, contributing to cholesterol trafficking in concert with NPC1. OSBPL5 also modulates cell signaling pathways such as mTORC1, influencing cell proliferation and migration, and its dysregulation is linked to cancer metastasis and poor prognosis.

Mechanism of action

Drugs targeting OSBPL5 might affect lipid transfer and membrane homeostasis, mTOR signaling, and ER-mitochondria communication, but no approved drugs are known to target OSBPL5 directly.
