Overview

Oxytocin-induced uterine contraction refers to the process by which the hormone oxytocin stimulates contractions of the uterus, primarily during labor and childbirth. Oxytocin binds to its receptor (OTR) on myometrial cells, activating the Gq/PLC/IP3 pathway, leading to increased intracellular calcium and muscle contraction.
