Target intelligence / Profile preview
The **P3 monoclonal antibody idiotype** refers to the unique antigenic determinants found in the variable (V) regions of the P3 monoclonal antibody, which is a murine IgM recognizing N-glycolyl (NeuGc)–gangliosides and sulfatides expressed on certain human tumors such as melanoma, breast, and lung cancers[2][3]. The idiotype can serve as an antigen to generate anti-idiotypic antibodies, notably 1E10 (Racotumomab), which is being developed as an anti-cancer immunotherapeutic vaccine[3][5]. The P3 idiotype itself is not a direct therapeutic target but is central to immunological network theories and anti-idiotypic vaccine strategies, functioning as a surrogate internal image of tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens[4][5].
Use of anti-idiotypic antibodies recognizing the P3 idiotype can induce anti-tumor immune responses by mimicking the original tumor antigen (typically NeuGc-containing gangliosides)[4][5]. Induction of immune network responses, including B- and T-cell activation, potentially useful for reversing tumor-associated immune suppression[2].
