Overview

p38β, also known as MAPK11, is a serine/threonine protein kinase that plays a role in cellular responses to stress and inflammatory stimuli. It's part of the p38 MAPK family and is activated by extracellular signals. Unlike other MAPKs, p38β can spontaneously autoactivate. It participates in cell proliferation, differentiation, glucose/lipid metabolism, secretion, stress response, apoptosis, autophagy, and cell migration. It's highly expressed in endothelial cells but has low expression in leukocytes. Small molecule inhibitors like SB202190 and SB203580 inhibit p38β.
