p38 Alpha Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase (p38 alpha)

Target
p38 alpha
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine/threonine kinase, MAP kinase
01

Overview

p38 alpha, also known as MAPK14, is a serine/threonine kinase that plays crucial roles in cellular responses to stress stimuli, inflammation, and various physiological processes. It is activated by upstream kinases MKK3 and MKK6 and phosphorylates numerous downstream targets including kinases, transcription factors, and other proteins, influencing cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, synaptic plasticity, inflammation, and muscle function. It is being investigated as a therapeutic target for arthritic and inflammatory diseases, ischemic heart failure, and cardiac regeneration.
