Target intelligence / Profile preview

p38 mitogen–activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK)

Target
p38 MAPK
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine/threonine kinase, MAP kinase
01

Overview

p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases are a family of serine/threonine kinases that play a central role in cellular responses to stress and inflammation. They are part of the larger MAP kinase family, which transduces extracellular signals into various intracellular responses. Dysregulation or persistent activation of this pathway has been implicated in numerous diseases, including inflammatory disorders, cancer progression/metastasis, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular disease and muscular dystrophies. Numerous small-molecule inhibitors targeting various isoforms have been developed for potential therapeutic use.
