p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase gamma (p38γ) is a serine/threonine kinase belonging to the p38 MAPK family. It is activated by dual phosphorylation at threonine and tyrosine residues by upstream kinases MKK3 and MKK6. p38γ plays critical roles in cellular response to stress, regulation of myogenic differentiation, and modulation of transcription factors. It can act via both kinase-dependent and independent mechanisms, modulating nuclear complexes through direct binding interactions. Its coordinated action with other p38 isoforms is essential for proper myogenic progression, and its dysregulation is implicated in inflammation-related diseases and muscular disorders.
