Overview

P53 and DNA damage-regulated protein 1 pseudogene (LOC101059974, ENSG00000257855) is a human processed pseudogene related to genes induced by p53-dependent DNA damage response. Pseudogenes like this arise from duplication or retrotransposition events in the genome and do not encode functional proteins. However, growing evidence suggests that some pseudogenes may have regulatory functions, such as being transcribed into noncoding RNA that can modulate the expression of their parental genes, sometimes affecting tumor suppressor or oncogene networks by serving as microRNA decoys or being processed into regulatory small RNAs[2][4][3]. For most pseudogenes, including this one, there is currently no evidence of direct pharmaceutical targeting or clinical utility beyond emerging research roles in RNA-mediated gene regulation. This is not a typical therapeutic target (such as a protein, enzyme, or receptor), and most curated drug and biomarker databases do not list pseudogenes as primary targets.
