Target intelligence / Profile preview
p87 tumor-associated antigen is an 87 kDa N-linked glycoprotein that serves as a marker of the innate immune system and a tumor-associated antigen. It is primarily expressed and secreted by Paneth cells in the intestinal mucosa and by activated type 2 pneumocytes in the lung. The antigen is recognized by the monoclonal antibody Adnab-9, which was originally raised against colonic adenoma extracts. p87 is shed into bodily fluids such as stool, sputum, and colonic effluent, making it a valuable non-invasive biomarker for the early detection and prognosis of various malignancies, including colorectal, lung, gastric, and pancreatic cancers. Research indicates that p87 is closely related to or identical to the 90 kDa fragment of Chloride channel accessory 1 (CLCA1), a protein involved in mucosal defense and ion transport. Targeting p87 with the Adnab-9 antibody has been shown to reduce the proliferation of certain cancer cell lines, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic target. The "FERAD ratio," which combines blood ferritin levels with fecal p87 concentrations, is used to assess innate immune system status and predict disease outcomes in conditions like COVID-19 and cancer.
