PALM2AKAP2 antisense RNA 1 (PALM2AKAP2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the PALM2AKAP2 locus. It is classified as an antisense RNA, generally understood to regulate gene expression of its sense (protein-coding) partner; however, the specific biological role, disease associations, and molecular mechanisms of PALM2AKAP2-AS1 remain undefined. It is not recognized as a therapeutic target or biomarker in current biomedical literature. PALM2AKAP2-AS1 should not be confused with the protein-coding PALM2AKAP2 gene, which encodes a fusion protein with roles in signaling and cytoskeletal regulation, and has been implicated in developmental and cardiac biology, as well as some cancers. The antisense RNA designation indicates its primary molecular classification is as a long non-coding RNA that functions through RNA-mediated regulatory processes, not as a receptor, enzyme, or other direct therapeutic target.
