Heme polymerase (also known as heme biocrystallization) is a process in Plasmodium parasites where toxic free heme is sequestered into non-toxic hemozoin; inhibition of this process is the primary mechanism of antimalarial drugs (Sullivan et al., 1996, PNAS).
