Overview

PAN3 antisense RNA 1 (PAN3-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed antisense to the PAN3 gene on the human genome[3][5]. Like other antisense RNAs, it may regulate the expression of its sense partner gene by mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, chromatin remodeling, or direct RNA-RNA interactions[4]. The biological function and disease relevance of PAN3-AS1 specifically are largely uncharacterized, but the broader class of antisense lncRNAs to which it belongs is increasingly recognized as important in transcriptional regulation and involved in pathological processes such as cancer, epigenetic silencing, and imprinting[4]. No drugs or biomarkers currently target PAN3-AS1; its potential as a therapeutic or diagnostic molecule has not yet been demonstrated.
