Pancreatic alpha-amylase (PA)

Target
PA
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Glycoside Hydrolase
01

Overview

Pancreatic alpha-amylase is a digestive enzyme secreted by the pancreas into the small intestine, where it plays a central role in carbohydrate digestion. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of internal α(1→4) glycosidic bonds in starches to yield maltose and other oligosaccharides. Serum levels serve as diagnostic markers for acute pancreatitis and other exocrine pancreatic disorders.

Other names
AMY2AAMY2B1,4-alpha-D-glucan glucanohydrolase
