Target intelligence / Profile preview
Pancreatic beta cells are specialized endocrine cells located within the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. They are primarily responsible for the synthesis, storage, and regulated release of insulin—a hormone essential for maintaining glucose homeostasis. Beta cells also produce amylin, another hormone involved in glycemic regulation. Dysfunction or destruction of these cells is central to the pathogenesis of both Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.
Various, including stimulation of insulin secretion, enhancement of insulin sensitivity, and replacement of insulin.
