Overview

Pancreatic islet antigen-specific T cell receptors (TCRs) are immune receptors expressed on the surface of T cells that specifically recognize antigens derived from pancreatic islets, particularly those associated with insulin-producing β-cells. These TCRs play a central role in the autoimmune response underlying type 1 diabetes (T1D), where they mediate the recognition and destruction of β-cells by targeting specific self-antigens present in pancreatic islets. Therapies targeting these TCRs aim to block pathogenic autoreactive clones, induce tolerance via regulatory mechanisms, or modulate homing receptor expression to prevent infiltration of autoreactive T cells into the pancreas.
